Katia Reitman was born in 1990 in Rostov-on-Don and grew up in the North Caucasus. She studied drawing and painting privately from the age of seven with a tutor from the Rostov State Academy of Architecture and Art, and came to photography at eighteen, studying at Central Saint Martins in London in 2011. She moved to Moscow in 2012, turned to art full-time in 2016, and completed the Illustration programme at HSE Art and Design School in 2019. She lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Her work exists between the figurative and the abstract, with images sometimes fully manifested and other times deliberately obscured. Her process draws on personal diaries, memory at the intersection of collective and individual experience, female imagery in art history and pop culture, and the legacy of European Romanticism. Recurring themes include overwhelming emotion, healing through nature, solitude, strangeness, and the collision between imagination and reality.
She has exhibited in Moscow and Tbilisi, including 'Beyond the Maze' at Artspace Zevit (2026), 'Sketching Tbilisi' at Rhisoma Lab (2023), 'Metasequoia of Foxia' at Winzavod (2022) and 'HSE x Sample' at HSE Art Gallery (2019). In 2025 she held a residency at Villa Lami-Genolini in Erba, Italy, and in 2023 at the Ria Keburia Foundation in Kakheti, Georgia. Her work is held in private collections in several countries.
